Keep it simple. Do the obvious things!

Let's talk about the “basic care” when owning a computer or a laptop, because realistically many times we overlook the simple and the obvious; and this, my friends, can bring a lot of trouble.

1. Keep food, drinks and liquids away

Yes, many of us spend long hours on our computers either working or getting entertainment and it's really hard to avoid keeping our snacks or beverages away, but it’s important to do that if we want to keep our equipment in good shape.

Simple solution: Keep your food or drinks on a different table, take a break for eating and drinking, and also you can use glasses with lids making it more difficult to spill on your computer or laptop. If you do happen have a spill on a device TURN IT OFF and bring it in to us right away.

2. Unplug to avoid overcharging

In our busy schedule is really easy to have the laptops plugged in all the time or

having the temptation to charge it every time the battery is running out, but in the long term its much better let our devices drain all the way down sometimes and help to optimize the battery power.

Simple solution: Let the battery drain at least once a month and don’t plug in your laptop until the power is actually low.

3. Back up your data

Most of us forget to back up our data until it’s too late. Always remember: your computer is replaceable, but your data is not. You can store it in an external drive and/or in the cloud. There is no such thing as backing up too much.

Simple solution: You can do it yourself, but for the best results you can always bring it to us for best advice and service. Also, remember to back up more frequently if you have very important or new files.

4. Use antivirus

For those who are frequent web-users and download programs or files regularly it’s really important to have a good antivirus scanning your computer or laptop at least once a week. Malware attacks or infections can compromise the performance of your device.

Simple solution: Is important to get an adequate antivirus. Always consult an expert for advice, because sometimes you can get in more trouble getting an ineffective antivirus.

5. Clean your history, programs and temporary files

Useless programs and old junk files take a lot more space than you realize - and same with old versions of software. Before your computer complains about it and starts running slow remember to constantly purge the junk and things that you are no longer using or that are out of date.

Simple solution: Run disk cleanup, clean your browsing history, and remove old apps that you no longer use. Otherwise, you can bring your computer shop and get professional service.
